Wisdom From The Grind: Get Clarity about your Goals.
 Just My Thoughts

Roger E LearClarity is commonly referred to as something vitally important to all communication. My boy Kev Duke and I jokingly ask each other for clarity all the time. However, during serious conversations we don’t have to ask each other for clarity.

We’ve known each other for about 15 years, so because we’ve had so much conversation along with having more than just a basic understanding of each other; clarity is achieved with a fair degree of ease. We communicate.

On the other hand I recall hearing this definition of communication: exchanges between two or more individuals where each can leave at the end of the conversation and with understanding of the speakers meaning and intent regardless to whether or not the point(s) is agreed upon.

Understanding.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, so communication isn’t about speaking or listening; (while that is part of if) it is about understanding. Do you understand the person that was speaking? Can you share back with them the point(s) they made and have them say “Yes, you understand me”?

Returning to the beginning of this stream of thought I say to you: without clarity, understanding is only in part. However, if you only understand in part……. you really don’t understand. Thus you really communicated very little if at all while talking. Without clarity there is no understanding.

My uncle told me this for many years as a young man; when in doubt, get clarity! Everyday I attempt to get some! Understand?

 What's New?

The SCR Music Portal Page is now live and takes us one step closer to full realization of the completed SCR Entertainment website. You can see it at SCR-Entertainment.com.

This portal gives you direct access to all avenues of contacting and interacting with me and allows quick navigation to the different aspects of my company, services I provide and new expansion sites as they come on line.

Two new sites are in development in addition to the SCR site. We are grinding here at SCR Entertainment so while we diligently push through the workload please be patient, you will love the new developments!

One of the new sites in development, which is essentially the whole catalog of SCR Entertainment, continues and is progressing nicely. The first 12 SCR releases dating back to 1993 plus all of the new works will be available. At launch we will have nearly 220 tracks with more coming!

At the portal page there are links to connect with me on Twitter, Facebook and MySpace. I encourage all of you to connect with me there so we can establish a relationship that allows open communication regularly.

If you haven’t taken the time to visit the blog you can see it at Blog.BanginBeatsByREL.com. I blog every week and sometimes daily depending on the power of the urge that says to me, “Share something”. Please visit often and leave comments.

 Wisdom From The Grind

I encourage those serious about goal setting to Google the following individuals and investigate their work. I have studied them and read many of the books they have written: ZiZ Ziglar, Stephen Covey, Anthony Robbins, Brian Tracy, David Allen and Jim Rohn. All of these men are best selling authors and all have achieved great personal success through effective goal setting.

In this three-part series on goal setting I will be sharing what I have gleaned from them and what has worked for me.

Part 2: Getting Clarity

Most people don’t have a clear picture of what they want. It’s fuzzy at best. At worst, they drift their whole lives accepting whatever comes along and find themselves in situations involving more and more compromise; not living their dreams and not even getting closer to them.

What about you? Do you spend time getting clarity about your future? Many will spend more time watching TV, or planning a vacation than designing a life and creating an exciting picture of their future. If you make the effort to develop the habit of taking time to get clarity about your life, the payoff will be tremendous. Goal setting is the way to do this.

The purpose of goals
Here is a working definition of a goal’s purpose: to ensure clarity. It is one of the best I’m aware of: “A goal is the ongoing pursuit of a worthy objective until accomplished”.

Breaking the sentence down will provide a deeper understanding.

“Ongoing” suggests that it is a process, and it is, because achieving any goal takes time.

“Pursuit” is all about action without which no accomplishment can be made.

Worthy” means that you understand the payoff and that it is worth the effort to do the work required and push through the discomfort that usually comes with goal achievement.

“Until accomplished” means very simply you will do what it takes, for as long as it takes to reach the goal.

What an effective goal is made up of
Regardless to the type of goal you set, it helps to understand how effective goals are established and their make up. Every goal should have these things built into them.

Your goals must to be yours: Create your definition of success and don’t worry about what others think you should do.

Your goals must be meaningful: You have to understand the rewards and benefits of their accomplishment.

Your goals must be specific and measurable: What are you doing? How often will I work on it? When will it be done?

Your goals must be flexible: A flexible plan allows for adjustment if needed.

Your goals must be built on your values: In order for your goals to carry you through tough times they have to be connected to beliefs you feel strongly about.

Your goals must have realistic time frames: You can accomplish anything you are willing to work for; but understand, you can’t plant a tree, watch it grow and eat its fruit all in the same day.

Wisdom from the grind: Get clarity about your goals!

Now you have the “Formula” and the “Clarity”, all that remains to begin your success run is……

 Changing / Learning / Seeking

I do not profess to know anything you don’t, I merely offer what I hope will help you remember what you already know. In this way we are both blessed.

The best focus for improvement is always on self.

  1. Know yourself: Solves reality issues
  2. Change yourself: Solves responsibility issues
  3. Accept yourself: Solves maturity issues
  4. Forgive yourself: Solves security issues
