Wisdom From The Grind: Take action now!
 Just My Thoughts

Roger E LearI have a full plate. In fact, my plate is overflowing with the many things I’ve chosen to put on it. I am currently a business owner, guitar teacher, music producer working on five albums while courting new clients.

I’m developing a youth empowerment program, writing a newsletter each week, attempting to blog regularly and updating on my three primary networking sites; MySpace, Facebook and Twitter. All this while attempting to maintain excellence in these areas and increase the bottom line; “dollar, dollar bills, y’all!”

My social calendar is far more basic. I’m getting ready for my first real year of fantasy football, which I’m looking forward to but feel a little unsure about, mainly because all of the other things I’m involved in. I’m single so I don’t have a woman vying for my time and the next big holiday is a couple of months away, so my family isn’t complaining at this point.

Don’t feel sorry for me, though. While I’ve over burdened myself with things to do all in the name of empire building, the truth is that I am now being reminded of things I’ve known but haven’t paid much attention to lately; the importance of saying no.

Reminders are great, like the overflowing plate I’m currently dealing with. “Roger, if you can’t run with men, how will you ever be able to run with horses?” The question is a bit out of context here, but I am gaining some stamina which is a benefit for the future anyway.

Considering that I really am doing what I want to do, you would think I’d be in love with all of this overflowing plate stuff; well, not so fast. I absolutely love every single individual thing I do, it’s just that having to do them and follow through even when the overflow is getting messy and as a result, I temporarily don’t feel like doing anything; which makes for more messiness. I suppose one can’t know the joys of balance until one experiences imbalance.

Anyway, I haven’t forgotten and you shouldn’t either, that the life I have is the life I choose. Like it or not, it is the same for you even if you don’t love what you have. I’m not learning right now, I’m being reminded of what I already know; I have complete dominion over my life and the consequences of my choices are always designed to show me the quality of my choices. I love what I do, I just have to make better choices about how much of it I do, and when.

Today is where I live, and in this day I am choosing more wisely. Until the excess is off my plate, I am practicing the use of the word no. When my plate is cleaner, I will attempt to remain mindful of the self care necessary to say no even when the money is great if my balance, peace, or ability to maintain excellence would be compromised. The word “no” has never sounded this good to me.

“NO” Aaaaah, that’s better.

Just my thoughts.

 What's New?

We are grinding here at SCR Entertainment, so while we diligently push through the workload, please be patient; you’ll love the new website!

A website we are developing which is essentially the whole catalog of SCR Entertainment is now in the works. The first 12 SCR releases dating back to 1993 plus all of the new works will all be available. At launch we will have over 150 tracks with more coming!

While the site is being completed, we are going to be adding a few albums on a new page on BanginBeatsByREL.com which is being worked on at this time. Currently, we intend to launch the SCR Vault site with the release of my first solo album “Spoken”, currently planned for December.

Here is a breakdown of the 5 most recent beats added to the site:

  • Mo Fo U - Other Flavor
  • Jazzy Funk - East Coast
  • In The Hole - Club Flavor
  • West Coast Funk - West Coast
  • Symphony Funk - West Coast

All through September you can read my blog for updates and progress on the things I’m working on.

 Wisdom From The Grind

Take Action Now

We all desire to be successful and live lives full of that which we deem valuable. However, the frequency with which we hear others and, sometimes ourselves, say things like, “Someday I will…” or “At some point I will get around to it…” implies that at best some external event will make a thing possible, or at worst, says the fulfillment of a wish is your best chance for success.

Neither is accurate for anyone; the truth is, success is a choice and is available to everyone. What is achievable by one is achievable by all because we all have the ability to direct our thinking and actions. Remove everything from a man and what remains is the last of the human freedoms; the ability to direct one’s own thinking and choose one’s own attitudes.

No rule, culture, disability, or circumstance can stop a man from arriving at a goal persevered for with diligent action. Being present in today affords you the ability to affect all of the tomorrows to come. Today is the only place you really live and have any real control. Seizing the “now” requires action. Oh, the many articles and books that have been written on the subject; great are their number.

Clichés aside, I feel it valuable to restate here what is of vital importance for your career in general and life as a whole. This is wisdom in the truest sense; think what you will, but know this truth: success will not wait on you, nor will it chase you. Opportunity is always within reach, but you must stretch out your hand and reach for it.

Here I highlight six action points which can serve as useful reminders that all you desire is on the other side of action:

  1. Action alone will move you toward your dreams, your plans and the achievement of your goals. Action makes success possible.
  2. Action because now is where you live. Yesterday is gone and tomorrow is unsure, so grab the opportunities of now.
  3. Action determines your value in business and to multiply business you must multiply wise action.
  4. Action is necessary. When you are hungry you eat, and when thirsty you drink. Action is required to attain and enjoy both, as it is for success.
  5. Action will secure opportunities which will be missed without action. Success will not wait on you nor will it chase you.
  6. Action improves courage, strengthens resolve and shrinks fear while at the same time reveals the unknown and empowers faith in the process.
All plans, every dream, even the most attainable goal are rendered impossible without action.

 Featured Project

Natasha’s album is currently on the high heat burner. Be sure to check the blog for updates.

Beat production for BanginBeatsByREL.com continues to be the priority until the first goal is met: 60 World Class Beats! We now have 27 on the site.

"Spoken", my first solo album is slated for a December release; just in time for Christmas. This album will be a mix of all the musical flavors I love; spoken word, rap, neo-soul and lounge / down tempo tracks.

I'm an artist doing what artists do; creating art. Of course, it's hip hop, and my hip hop roots will be felt. I've already begun production, so as things are developed I will share them with you. I have added three more tracks to the project. The total track number has again changed. At this point I’m considering 15. This will mark album number 13.

 Quote Of The Week
"The chief condition on which, life, health and vigor depend on, is action. It is by action that an organism develops its faculties, increases its energy, and attains the fulfillment of its destiny."
