 Just My Thoughts
At the time of this writing it’s Tuesday; however, I believe I can speak off into the future and say this has been an awesome week.

OK, now back to Tuesday. I have had the pleasure of listening to some awesome spiritual teachers at a spiritual conference I am attending this week.

[Sidebar: I’m not going to start talking about God by the way; firstly because some subscribers may not believe in God, and secondly, for those that do your approach to God may differ from mine which could be cause for conflict and we don’t need that.]

Now that I have written about God after clearly saying I wasn’t going to talk about God (funny how that happens), I will move on to my original thoughts.

I know when I take the time to get quiet, meaning turning off the music, the TV, the cell phone (really, really hard for me), no book reading, etc, so it is just me and my thoughts, I begin to notice things that are always present but that I tend to miss when I constantly move from thing to thing.

The hit for me is that when I grind too hard I begin to lose focus on why I’m doing what I’m doing and start losing my natural passion for what I truly love. The only way for me to lock back in is to stop moving, be quiet and listen.

Of course, you don’t know this but things were crazy for me over this past weekend. Personal issues, family issues, business issues, etc. You know; life stuff. So much so, that I started asking questions like: I produce music so why am I doing so much writing for blogs, MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, a newsletter, etc?

Why stay up late nights trying to develop new ideas, blah, blah, blah. All of the questions weren’t the problem; it was that the questions were really complaints. And not because I don’t enjoy any of the individual activities, but because I was doing them while I was so tired.

Now to the root of the problem; I was so tired because in my pursuit of excellence I have at times neglected a very important piece of my daily life: quiet time with myself.

For those of you who are connected to me on Facebook and Twitter, you have seen and will continue to see the posts I’ve made that say “Shhhhhhhhhhhh, I’m listening!” This is what it means: I’m taking some quiet time to reconnect with my sole purpose here, which is to be the best me possible and to use my God given gifts to help you to do the same in any way I can.

My energy is high right now. Nahmean?

PS; To insure no one gets the wrong impression from my writing, I would like to clarify that much of what I write about are corrective methods I use regularly in my daily life. I’m not some guru dude free of issues, sometimes I just sound like I’m issue free (really?!?!?).

Don't Wait, Do The Work
This one comes from a recent experience, but I’ve seen it many times over the years. I know of at least one remedy for this problem.

OK, so an MC I know and have done quite a lot of work with drops by The Garden (my studio) and hears a track I’m working on and says; “I’ve gotta have that”, because he is working on his album (for the last two years, and counting. Really?!?!?).

I hook him up on four different occasions. He is on fire for the tracks at first, but he takes his time, procrastinates, rewrites lyrics, procrastinates some more and eventually the track becomes old to him and he is no longer inspired by it.

He thinks the answer is in getting a new track for inspiration. Well, we did that four times already, so when he asked the fifth time I told him no. When he asked me why, I gave him this observation based on what I knew.

He had 15 tracks from three different producers, and at the time he received each one he was fired up. But he has only completed three or four songs. Why? He loved and was inspired by the tracks when he got them.

Whether it’s laziness, procrastination, fear, no real fire for success or whatever, the bottom line is; if he can’t make himself get busy for his dreams, nothing, and no one, will. No matter how hot the track or how great the opportunity, work is required at the time of inspiration. Inspiration doesn’t wait for any of us.

Wisdom from the grind: when the track is hot and inspiration is high; don’t wait, do the work. You may never recapture that fever!

 Quote Of The Week
I offer this quote to the hip hop heads that could use a reminder. It is another Wisdom of the Grind / Quote of the Week connection: don’t wait, do the work!

"Life lived for tomorrow will always be just a day away from being realized."
