 Just My Thoughts
Welcome to the first edition of the SCR Entertainment/Bangin Beats By REL weekly newsletter.

I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to share with you my passion, my gift and my insight. My desire is to establish myself in your life as an excellent source of information and be your go-to producer for all your music production needs.

From beginner to pro, whether artist, songwriter, producer, or music business professional, I will share my experience with you. Not theory or spectulation, but hard learned lessons.

I am a professional within the music business, but more importantly, I am and will always remain a student of the art, craft and business of music.

Because this is the first newsletter I wanted to take a moment to explain what you can expect to find in each section.

Just My Thoughts (the section you are reading now) is where you will get me uncut, or as my boy Kevin D and I call it; unrestricted free agent thinking. Whatever I happen to be on that week is what I will touch on.

What's New? is where I will keep you up to date on:
  • Improvements or additions to the website.
  • The last five beats added along with their style.
  • Advance notice of upcoming special offers and sales.
  • Current promotions available only to subscribers (you!)

Wisdom From The Grind is all about the basics of the game. As a beginner or pro, you will find experience here. Not theory or speculation, but indispensable wisdom to help you achieve or maintain success in the music business.

Featured Project. Because I'm always producing music for release through SCR Entertainment or for other artists and companies, I will share some of them with you here. You'll get a chance to look and listen in on a project I'm excited about.

Quote Of The Week is where I will share timely wisdom beyond music. Mind renewal.

About Roger E Lear is, well, about me! :-D

 What's New?
Have you had a chance to listen to the latest beats on the site yet?
  • Story Time - East Coast
  • 1 & 2 & 3 to the 4 - Other Flavor
  • Ol School - East Coast
  • Miles - East Coast
  • Dark Side - West Coast

And did you check out the remix I did for Jay Z's song "Dirt Off Your Shoulder"? I created this to demonstrate what world class beats sound like with world class MC’s flowing over them. This is a real example of how your flow can bang over a REL beat.

I'm planning a page on the site dedicated to remixes. I'll let you know when it's ready.

Also, just a quick reminder that the introductory pricing for beats will end at midnight next Thursday, April 30th. Don't miss out on an opportunity to save $10 on the beat that matches your vision.

 Wisdom From The Grind
Get Clarity In Writing
Over the years I've had to sign a lot of documents while doing business, plenty of contracts stipulating the details of particular agreements, duration of service and consequences in the event of contract breach.

I was fortunate to receive guidance early in my career from an industry vet who mentored me for a while. He made two very important points regarding agreements that have proven true for me:
  1. Agreements are only as solid as the individuals making them.
  2. Agreements are rarely for the parties involved; they serve to minimize third party interference.

Point one is a reference to character; no matter how nice the deal may seem to be, success often comes down to who you are dealing with, not what you agree on.

Point two is about the nature of the game. We all want to get paid right? Well, there are plenty of folks who would love to get paid at your expense.

Holes in any agreement appear like a bullseye to those who seek gain be creating division. If you and I have an agreement which is both clear and thorough, an aggressive third party would have a hard time driving a wedge between our relationship and our desired outcome.

I have done business with long time friends, family members as well as people I hardly knew. The singular difference between a good or bad outcome has always come down to clarity in the contract language.

 Featured Project
I must say of all the work that I’m involved in right now, beat production for BanginBeatsByREL.com is the most in my face and exciting project I'm working on.

I'm adding new beats weekly because I really want to provide you with plenty of options. Having said that, I want you to know that I will never sacrifice quality for quantity. I have never mass produced beats. Ain't gonna do it!

In addition to beat production for the website, I will be releasing three new albums for SCR Entertainment in 2009. I’ll be telling you about those soon.

Of course I greatly look forward to doing custom work for you as well. How will I accomplish it all? Vision assesment, my team, goal setting and perseverance.

The best way to achieve excellence is to attempt to do that which is beyond what has yet been accomplished. I’m focused man!

Feel The Bang!
 Quote Of The Week
None of us is above the grind.

It doesn't happen often, but whenever I start feeling like the world or any one in it owes me something I look at this quote:

"Don’t be misled into believing that somehow the world owes you a living. The boy who believes that his parents, or the government, or anyone else owes him a livelihood and that he can collect it without labor will wake up one day and find himself working for another boy who did not have that belief, and therefore, earned the right to have others work for him."

- David Sarnoff; 1891 - 1971, businessman and pioneer of American commercial radio and television, longtime executive of RCA and founder of NBC.
